Jazz in Marciac 2024, July 18th to August 4th : an opening to the world

Jazz in Marciac, 46th edition! From Thursday July 18 to Sunday August 4, a festival of emotions to share without limit. After last year record-breaking attendance figures, it’s time to discover one more time this enchanted atmosphere where music allows all borders to be abolished. We've applied Leonardo da Vinci's advice to our event: "Let your painting always be an opening to the world". So, artists like Anne Paceo, Émile Parisien with the Toulouse Orchestre National du Capitole, Avishai Cohen, who will offer a “special and unique show for Jazz in Marciac”, are keen to offer original creations. And let us not forget our homage to the solar Ahmad Jamal whose percussive notes fill for ever the big top. Another tribute will be paid to Claude Nougaro on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his death. Once more, the word “openness” is appropriate since the event is presented in co-production with other festivals: Jazz à Vienne, Jazz sous les pommiers and Les Suds in Arles. Jazz in Marciac is also open to young people. For well-born musicians, talent comes at an early age. To name a few: singer and songwriter Laufey, only 24 and the most streamed jazz artist on Spotify in 2022; bassist Kinga Glyk, born twenty-seven years ago, and who is said to literally subjugate the world of bass players; singer and multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier, winner of four Grammy Awards, who will tread the boards of the big top with the vocal ensemble Take 6 a week before celebrating his thirtieth birthday. And, of course, Marciac will be opening its doors to artists it has never hosted before: the legendary Pink Martini, which will open this edition, followed on the same night by Vulfpeck, the first time also for these kings of funk. Let us also mention Ludovico Einaudi, Meshell Ndegeocello, Chris Isaak or the splendid project “Black Lives: from generation to generation”. Once again, something new under the skies of Gascony. But openness does not exclude loyalty. Let us conclude with a non-exhaustive list of names for a promise of happiness: Ibrahim Maalouf, Richard Galliano, Chucho Valdes as well as Angelique Kidjo, Youn Sun Nah and Hiromi who testify to the strong female presence on the festival stage. Loyalty of the public, too, whose warm presence delights and moves us every year. It proves that the years that pas do not affect the bonds woven in Marciac, even if we can hardly wait for the show to begin!
